CoolSculpting and Emsculpt Cost: Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Prices

CoolSculpting and Emsculpt prices per cycle, per session and per plan, how many sessions practices quote, what the FDA clearances cover, the disputed PAH rate, South Carolina med spa menus and a comparison with liposuction.

CoolSculpting is priced by the cycle, one placement of one applicator, and practices list $500 to $1,200 a cycle. A full treatment takes several cycles: RealSelf’s patient-reported average is $3,308, and CareCredit’s 2026 average is $1,602 for a single session. Emsculpt runs $750 to $1,000 a session on RealSelf’s figures, or $3,017 for a course. The FDA says non-invasive body contouring does not treat obesity or improve health.

Per cycle, per session or per plan

Prices for these treatments are quoted in three units, and a figure in one cannot be compared directly with a figure in another:

  • Per cycle (or “per pad”). One applicator on one area for one treatment. DeLuca Plastic Surgery in Albany charges $500 a cycle and says an area typically takes two to three cycles.
  • Per session. One visit, which may include several cycles. CareCredit’s averages are per session.
  • Per plan or per area. The whole course for an area. The Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery in Richmond charges $2,600 for a first area, covering two treatments at least four weeks apart, then $2,200, $2,000 and $1,800 for further areas.

The society averages do not say which unit they use. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) puts “noninvasive fat reduction” at $1,157 on average (2023 data), grouping CoolSculpting, Emsculpt, Kybella and others in one line. The Aesthetic Society’s 2022 average for non-surgical body contouring is $1,065, and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery gives $1,000 to $4,000 per session.

RealSelf’s page calls its $3,308 “significantly lower” than a manufacturer-cited average of $3,200, although it is higher. In the metro tables, Charlotte averages $3,347 and Atlanta $2,770. Weiler Plastic Surgery in Louisiana sells a $2,500 membership for 150 days of discounted pricing.

Emsculpt cost

Emsculpt and similar devices use magnetic pulses to contract muscle, and they are sold as a series.

No society publishes an Emsculpt figure; the closest is The Aesthetic Society’s 2021 average for muscle tightening, $377. FDA says the muscle effects “may be temporary” and may need ongoing treatments; some menus list a separate maintenance price.

Other devices, on RealSelf’s patient-reported averages: truSculpt $2,198, SculpSure $1,959 and Kybella injections $1,228. CareCredit puts Kybella at $1,624 a treatment.

What the FDA clearances cover

  • CoolSculpting. FDA describes cryolipolysis as using cold “intended to kill fat cells and reduce visible fat bulges without surgery,” for prescription use only. Clearances began with the flanks (De Novo DEN090002) and added the abdomen (K120023), thighs (K133212) and the area under the chin (K151179, 2015). The current CoolSculpting Elite clearance (K233732, September 12, 2024) covers the upper arm, bra fat, back fat, banana roll, thigh, abdomen and flank at a BMI of 30 or less, and the area under the chin and jaw up to a BMI of 46.2.
  • BTL devices. FDA’s records name model numbers rather than the Emsculpt brand. BTL 799-2 (K180813) is cleared for abdominal toning and for the buttocks and thighs, and BTL 799-2L (K190456, July 2019) adds calves and arms; both are muscle indications. BTL-899 (K192224, December 2019) is cleared for non-invasive lipolysis of the abdomen and reducing abdominal circumference, for skin types I to III.
  • The breasts. FDA says no non-invasive body contouring device is cleared or approved for treating the breasts in men or women.

Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia

FDA describes paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) as fatty tissue that grows instead of shrinking in the treated area. Reported cases developed two to five months after fat freezing, “PAH does not go away on its own and may require surgery.” FDA also notes reports of hernias in treated areas. FDA gives no rate, and the sources that do disagree:

0.22%, or 1 in 455 patientsMah et al. 2025, meta-analysis of 28 studies and 13,078 patients, low-certainty evidence

The meta-analysis concludes that the rate “appears to be higher than manufacturer reports.” Allergan says PAH has appeared in CoolSculpting safety information since 2012.

South Carolina prices

CoolSculpting. CareCredit’s South Carolina average is $1,491 a session (2026 study). Port City Plastic Surgery in Charleston charges $600 a pad with the Cool Advantage applicator and $1,200 with the larger Advantage Plus. LUX, A Medical Spa on Hilton Head gives an average of $3,200 for CoolSculpting Elite, which reads as a treatment plan, since its page says two or more sessions are typical.

CoolSculpting or liposuction?

The Aesthetic Society says non-surgical fat reduction “is not a weight-loss treatment” and that liposuction is probably better for larger fat accumulations.

Non-surgicalLiposuction
Patient-reported total, RealSelf$3,308 for CoolSculpting$9,250
CareCredit, 2026 study$1,602 a CoolSculpting session$4,777 for the lower abdomen, before anesthesia and facility
Society figure$1,157 average, ASPS 2023$4,300 to $7,500 surgeon’s fee, ASPS 2024

Liposuction prices by area are on liposuction cost. Which approach suits a given area is a question for a board-certified plastic surgeon who has examined you.
